How to Throw a Classic Winnie the Pooh Baby Shower

The Winnie the Pooh baby shower theme is one of my favourite themes as it can be easily adapted for boys, girls or for a gender-neutral baby shower. Plus all the characters are just so cute! In this post I’ll give you some ideas on how to create the perfect Winnie the Pooh baby shower from the invitation to the food and decorations.

A quick note about ‘classic Pooh’ vs. ‘Disney’s Pooh Bear’

This post will focus on the classic/vintage Winnie the Pooh character which because of the age of the published works, is no longer under copyright. The character created by Walt Disney (pooh bear wearing a red t-shirt) is copyright and owned by Disney. If you purchase anything that uses this image from anyone other than Disney themselves, be aware that the seller may be infringing copyright. Some print stores such as Walmart for example may even refuse to print anything for you that has Disney’s version of pooh on it (i.e. a baby shower invitation). However, there is nothing stopping you from drawing/painting/DIYing Pooh in a red t-shirt for your shower if that’s the style you want to go for.

Classic Winnie the Pooh Baby Shower Invitations

Your invitations are the first step towards creating your dream Winnie the Pooh Baby shower. The Invitation lets guests know what to expect and what they should bring. For example, you may wish to include a ‘books for baby’ insert with the invitation, see below.

Winnie the pooh Invitations come in a variety of styles from those inspired by the illustrations from the classic books, to more modern minimalistic designs. You can find a range of designs on Etsy or if you’re feeling creative try making your own by drawing pooh and his friends and uploading your design to a site like Canva to create your invitation.

The Winnie the Pooh theme is great for baby showers and gender reveal parties because in general, the colours feel neutral and muted, but if you want to include your baby’s gender you can go for an invitation that includes subtle hints of blue or pink, maybe as the font or in balloons held by Pooh.

Additional Invitation Inserts

These inserts are optional but popular ones include ‘books for baby’, ‘baby registry’  and ‘diaper raffle’.

The books for baby insert asks guests to bring a book instead of a card or gift, the guests can write a little note to the baby on the inside cover. Books for baby is a great idea as books are likely to last much longer than a card and will be treasured for years. You can often edit the text on the books for baby insert to say whatever you like, for example, you may want to let your guest know they you’d be happy with new or second-hand books.

The Diaper Raffle is another popular insert and can be classed as a baby shower ‘game’. The card asks guests to bring a pack of diapers (nappies) to be entered into a draw for a prize. You’ll want to have a diaper station/table set up for your guests to pop them down when they arrive.

The baby registry card is a card you can include with your invitation with the details of where your registry is located i.e. Amazon, mamas&papas and can be just a web address or a QR code that your guests can access from their phones.

Winnie the Pooh Food Ideas

You’re likely going to want to feed your guests at some point and you can use this as an opportunity to get creative and enhance your winnie-the-pooh theme with some hundred-acre-wood-inspired goodies, don’t forget the cute food signs! Check out the ideas below if you’re looking for some inspiration.

Themed Baby Shower Games

Baby shower games have a reputation for being cheesy or really rude. But they don’t have to be, there are loads of games to choose from and they can be PG if you’ve got little people coming to your shower but challenging enough to keep a group of adults entertained. Some games can even be modified to fit more with the Winnie the pooh theme, such as ‘Guess how many honeycombs’ are in the jar or ‘Pin the tail on Eeyore’.

Winnie the Pooh Baby Shower Decorations

Balloons are a cheap and easy way to decorate for a baby shower and you can get literally any colour you can imagine so it’s easy to get some to match your theme. For my baby shower, I ordered a balloon arch from Amazon, it was easier to make than it looks and we had plenty of balloons left over for decoration elsewhere.

For an additional touch, why not attach some pooh bear characters to the balloon strings? (this works best with balloons filled with helium)

You could also use some cute character cutouts, these can be a few inches tall that you place on your food table or huge A1-sized characters that you could use as a backdrop

With this theme, some quotes from the classic books would make a lovely addition and they’re easy to make or you could buy a selection from Etsy.

Themed bunting is easy to put up with some drawing pins or strong tape and can be used inside or out.

Other small touches you could include are custom personalised chocolate bar wrappers, wine bottle covers, party bag thank-you notes, cupcake toppers or large cake toppers.
